Ulster History Park Omagh

The Ulster History Park was commissioned by Omagh District Council as a museum of dwellings from the Neolithic times right through to the 17th Century Ulster Planters house.

The scholarly and extensive research led to the reconstruction of structures based on live models such as St Flannan’s Oratory at Killaloe, Devenish Round Tower, the early Christian monastic site on the uninhibited island of Inishmurray.

The reception/visitor centre accommodates interpretive museum facilities, gift shop, restaurant, teaching and seminar rooms and exhibition space. It is a series of interlocking hexagonal shapes and the spire form of the roofs nestle into the existing conifers of Gortin Forest.

The reception/visitor centre was completed in 1993 and won an RSUA commendation whilst the history park itself won a Europa Nostra Award.

The total cost of the project in 1993 was £6million.
